“Bliss” is coming soon

With “Bliss”, Temples have also announced the successor to their album “Exotico”, which was released in 2023. The new work marks a clear stylistic development: the band combines their psychedelic rock with influences from dance music of the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Sources of inspiration range from acts like Faithless and Underworld to Massive Attack and Portishead. The group itself describes the result as “melancholic euphoria” – a field of tension between catchy structures and emotional depth.

New singles give a first impression of the sound

The first single “Jet Stream Heart” was released early on; Most recently, another forerunner of the album followed, “Vendetta”. The track exemplifies Temples’ new direction: driving beats meet atmospheric soundscapes and catchy melodies.

Frontman James Bagshaw describes the creative process as experimental and open. The starting point was, among other things, samples that were reminiscent of electronic acts like Daft Punk or Justice and were then transformed into their own, modern sound.

Self-produced and consciously intuitive

In contrast to its predecessor, which was created in collaboration with producer Sean Ono Lennon, “Bliss” was produced entirely by the band themselves. According to the press release, Temples relied on a direct, collaborative approach: improvising, developing ideas in space and bringing sounds together organically.

Samplers were not used to process other people’s material, but rather to alienate one’s own recordings. The result is an album that functions as a coherent sound collage in which motifs and textures run through all the songs.

Four albums and constant change

Since their debut, frontman and main songwriter James Bagshaw, bassist Thomas Walmsley, keyboardist Adam Smith and drummer Rens Ottink have continued to develop. With “Sun Structures” (2014) the band made a highly acclaimed entry into the international indie and psych rock scene, as did their “Sun Restructured” in the same year, on which they once again redefined the tracks from their debut album. This was followed by “Volcano” (2017) and “Hot Motion” (2019), before they experimented more with external influences and production for the first time with “Exotico” (2023).

With “Bliss”, Temples are now opening a new chapter in which guitar music and club culture are intended to merge – an approach that should unfold live on the upcoming German tour.
