The American Music Awards returns for its 52nd edition this year, kicking off on May 25 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Taylor Swift leads the field with eight nominations, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year and Song of the Year. Close on their heels are Sabrina Carpenter, Morgan Wallen, Olivia Dean and Sombr with seven entries each.

Swift has had a monumental year, buoyed by her record-breaking 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl. The album’s lead single, “The Fate of Ophelia,” is nominated in the Song of the Year, Best Pop Song and Best Music Video categories, while “Elizabeth Taylor” – considered the album’s centerpiece by many critics – is up for Song of the Summer, one of the annual show’s 11 newly introduced categories. Should Swift win in all eight categories, she would tie Michael Jackson (1984) and Whitney Houston (1994) for the most wins in a single night.

Newcomers Olivia Dean and Sombr are nominated for the first time and will compete against each other in the categories New Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and Breakthrough Album of the Year. Also nominated for the AMAs for the first time are Alex Warren, Teyana Taylor, BigXthaPlug, Katseye, Leon Thomas, PinkPantheress, Raye, Role Model, Sienna Spiro and Tate McRae.

Newcomers and film hits

Ejae, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami – the vocal voices of Huntr/x from “KPop Demon Hunters” – are nominated in three categories: Song of the Year, Best Vocal Performance and Best Pop Song, for their colossal hit “Golden” from the film.

This year’s AMAs also welcome back Queen Latifah, who will headline the annual show – she last graced this stage as host 30 years ago. “I am so excited to return to the American Music Awards stage and host the show this year,” Latifah said in a statement. “It’s been an incredible year for music, and there’s no better place to celebrate than Vegas.”

The 52nd American Music Awards will air live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Monday, May 25, starting at 8 p.m. ET on Paramount+ and CBS.
