Second division soccer team SV Elversberg has hired a new sports director in Christian Weber, thus completing its sporting management level after the departure of former sports expert Ole Book to Borussia Dortmund. The Saarlanders announced this on Monday. Josef Welzmüller had previously taken over the newly created position of technical director at the club.
“With Christian Weber we are gaining a sports director who knows German professional football from different perspectives and has great experience in squad planning and scouting,” President Dominik Holzer was quoted as saying: “He stands for a clear, structured way of working and for responsible decisions in the sporting area.”
Weber most recently worked as sports director at league rival Fortuna Düsseldorf, and he was released from there in December 2025. From now on, he will be responsible for the sporting area of the SVE together with the technical director of the same rank, Welzmüller.
Book had previously served as sports director in Elversberg since the 2022/23 season, and at the end of March he became sports director at Borussia Dortmund, succeeding Sebastian Kehl.
Elversberg is still playing for promotion in the 2nd Bundesliga shortly before the end of the season. With five games still to play, the club is fourth in the table, only one point behind relegation place third.
