Swiss national ice hockey coach Patrick Fischer admits a mistake from 2022. The association refrains from any consequences.
The Swiss national ice hockey coach Patrick Fischer caused a stir with a surprising confession a month before the home World Cup. As the association explained in an official statement, the 50-year-old traveled to the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2022 with a fake Corona certificate.
“I would like to address a personal matter in the run-up to the home World Cup. Before the Winter Olympics in Beijing, I entered China using an invalid Covid vaccination certificate. The Swiss Ice Hockey Federation, Swiss Olympic and those around me had no knowledge of this,” Fischer is quoted as saying. He was in exceptional personal distress because he did not want to be vaccinated. Fischer spoke of a “serious mistake” and took “full responsibility.”
Fischer will also face the DEB selection with Switzerland at the World Cup in Zurich and Fribourg (May 15th to 31st). He has been the coach of the national team since the end of 2015, and he won World Cup silver with the team three times. The association is waiving any consequences for Fischer, who, according to the announcement, was convicted as a private individual in 2023 for his misconduct.
