The municipality of Hoogeveen wants to start the construction of a new fire station in early 2027. The old Euromaster location on the Griendtsveenweg should have a new home for the emergency service that same year, or a year later.

During the council meeting on Thursday evening, politicians received an update on the project. This year, a builder will first be sought to take on the construction. The soil at the site must then be cleaned up, which is contaminated.

Once those steps have been taken, construction can begin. Jan van der Sleen of Gemeentebelangen asked whether a larger part of the Griendtsveenweg will be cleaned, or just the place where the barracks should be located.

There are more plans along the Griendtsveenweg, for example for housing construction. However, those plans are not yet concrete enough. That is why the soil in those places is not yet cleaned, an official responded.
