NAC narrowly avoided a defeat at Fortuna Sittard at the bottom of the Eredivisie on Sunday. Substitute Mohamed Nassoh scored from a great distance in injury time in the second half: 1-1. Fortuna had taken the lead after just under an hour of play thanks to Kristoffer Peterson.
In the second half it did not look like NAC would get another point. The start of the game in Limburg was still hopeful for the Brabanders. After a good turning cross from Raul Paula, André Ayew was able to head the ball from close range on goal in the tenth minute, but keeper Luuk Koopmans saved Fortuna with a great save. Shortly before half-time, NAC had to continue without Lewis Holtby, who suffered an injury after a duel with Justin Hubner. Nassoh replaced him.
Fortuna took control of the match after the break. Neraysho Kasanwirjo, who was hired from Feyenoord, placed the ball at the far post in the 56th minute, where the completely detached Peterson was able to score: 1-0.
NAC created little and were grateful to Nassoh, who scored hard from well outside the sixteen-meter area: 1-1.
Fight against relegation
NAC does not gain much from the draw. Coach Carl Hoefkens’ team is seventeenth and must rise at least one place in the rankings to avoid relegation. The gap to FC Volendam is 3 points and Excelsior and Telstar have 2 points more.
NAC has a tough remaining programme, with matches against Ajax (home), FC Utrecht (away), sc Heerenveen (home) and AZ (away).
