According to informateur Jisse Otter (Wakker Emmen), the municipality of Emmen is best off with a coalition of two parties. That coalition must be formed by Wakker Emmen and the Labor Party (PvdA). This is stated in Otter’s information report, which he presented on Friday afternoon.

This means that the big winner of the past elections, Wakker Emmen (fifteen seats), in collaboration with the PvdA (seven seats) will probably rule the day and the CDA will therefore fall outside the coalition boat. Those three parties have been sitting on the plush in the Emmer council chamber for the past four years.

Otter spoke with all parties on Wednesday about the formation of a new council. On the basis of these conversations, he has come to the above advice.

This coalition has a majority of 22 seats out of a total of 39. More than half of the parties, more than 70% of the seats, prefer this. “The parties prefer this because then there is more balance in the relationship between coalition and opposition,” Otter said.

If it is not possible to forge a coalition of only Wakker Emmen and PvdA, then all parties are prepared to participate in an alternative coalition.

Due to the growth of the tasks of the municipality, an increase in the number of aldermen to six is an obvious choice for the parties. Wakker Emmen will most likely appoint a formateur next week, with whom the formation phase will start.
