Even if Matthijs van Nieuwkerk wanted to restart his TV career with the critically acclaimed program Matthijs Gaat Door, there is no budget for that at all, according to Sven Hammond.
Matthijs van Nieuwkerk nowadays fills his days with some musical things in the country and whether a TV comeback is on the way is unclear to everyone, probably including the presenter himself. Wouldn’t reviving Matthijs Gaat Door be an option? No, says his buddy Sven Hammond in the studio Show news.
No budget
Sven doesn’t know whether there will be a new TV program. “Yes, that’s not up to me. I think it would be great fun if we could make another TV program if that were possible. Yes, who knows. Everywhere I go people say: ‘That program, Matthijs Gaat Door, you with that big band and Matthijs! That was so cool! Why isn’t that coming back?'”
According to him, the problem lies in finances. “Look, at the moment all the budgets and all the taps are just closing. The art and culture is gone everywhere at the moment. There is no music at Eva, there is no music at all talk show programs. Every now and then Yves Berendse is allowed to sit for a song, but come on, you know.”
Curator
Matthijs deserves to be hoisted on the shield again, Sven thinks. “The pleasure he has in art is of course also one of the things he has given to the Netherlands over the past twenty years and also to our sector, the arts, you know, so theater makers, poets, artists, art and culture.”
“He is someone who has been eating it all his life and is extremely obsessed with it and loves it very much with an enthusiasm that he has always managed to bring to television, which also meant that writers also sold extra booklets. A cultural curator, yes.”
