Rapper Finch criticizes the new military service law and calls on young people to emigrate. What the German rap star says about traveling abroad and compulsory military service.

He has often made it clear that rapper Finch is not a fan of conscription – and now he has spoken out again.

New military service law comes into focus

The Bundestag voted on a new military service law in December. The bill to modernize military service stipulates that all men born after January 1, 2008 will be subject to compulsory military service.

Now another clause of the new law came into focus: men between the ages of 17 and 45 must obtain approval from the Bundeswehr if they plan to spend longer periods abroad. Not only politicians have spoken out about this in the last few days.

Finch’s appeal on Instagram

The German rap star Finch, who has now given up the nickname “anti-social”, also posted an Instagram story and appealed to his fans: “If you are a young person and have the opportunity to leave this country: do it, do it.” He emphasized how absurd the new legislation was: “As a 40-year-old man, I obviously have to deregister if I want to go abroad for three months. As if it were my fucking father. It just puts me in a bad mood.” He also emphasized that it was not worth living in Germany as a self-employed person.

The rapper spent the last few months in Thailand, where he is currently taking a break before his upcoming concerts.

Not a new attitude

It is not the first time that he has spoken out against conscription and German politics. He had already made his aversion to compulsory military service public. He said on TikTok: “The only thing I have to defend is my family and I don’t do that in some dirty trench in Ukraine, where I fight for bigwig billionaires who only care about profits… volunteering is no problem at all, I don’t have a problem with the Bundeswehr itself, I just have a problem with conscription where people are told they have to come to us now.”

He also criticized: “We are only fighting for a broken system, a broken pension system, there is no money anywhere for broken schools,” he emphasized.

This is also reflected in his music

His dislike of warfare and conscription is also reflected in his music. In keeping with the current debate, his song “KEiN BOCK AUF KRiEG” says: “Work and travel, year abroad (Nah). Real men have a captain’s rank.”

Abroad, yes, but with return

The rapper would reportedly prefer to just stay abroad. However, he also wants to go back to his family. He is also already booked for a few festivals this summer: In June he will play at Rock am Ring in the Eifel, at Rock im Park in Nuremberg as well as at the Southside Festival and the Hurricane Festival. There will be two shows in Berlin at the Alte Försterei on July 3rd and 4th.
