It has been clear for around two weeks that Rocco Reitz will leave Borussia Mönchengladbach after the season and join RB Leipzig. The Lower Rhine team will receive around 20 million euros for the midfielder, excluding possible bonus payments, but only part of it will probably go back into the team.
Of the hefty fee that Borussia Mönchengladbach will collect for Rocco Reitz’s move to RB Leipzig, they will only be able to invest around eight million euros in new staff. This is what “Sport Bild” reports.
The majority of the sum, according to the sports newspaper, is needed to consolidate the club. Specifically, the remaining money goes towards the excessive salary costs of the current staff and licensing costs. Losses also supposedly still have to be repaid, as the company is expected to be in the red in 2025.
Reitz will probably not be the last star to turn his back on Gladbach. “Sport Bild” claims that no one in the current squad is “unsaleable”. Goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas and Franck Honorat in particular would have a market. Nicolas is said to have an exit clause in the region of ten million euros.
Less salary, more bonus payments in Gladbach
Incidentally, Gladbach’s sports director Rouven Schröder should pay particular attention to reducing the salary structure of the new staff. In the future, Borussia will probably pay low fixed sums; the focus should be on performance-related bonus payments.
According to the report, this model has already been used for Hugo Bolin, who was signed after a few weeks on loan.
How severe the turning point will be after the season probably depends above all on whether Gladbach can stay in the league. After 27 match days they are five points ahead of the relegation place.
