Fritz announces work-up

Mitchell Weiser, who has been injured for months, has clearly criticized the sporting decisions of his club Werder Bremen. “It’s true that a lot of things happened last summer that were questionable for me,” said the 31-year-old to the “Sky” broadcaster during the half-time break in Bremen’s later 1-2 defeat in the Bundesliga against RB Leipzig. “With all due respect: We were on a great path until last year and then this year we found ourselves in a difficult situation.”
He is waiting for signals that the club is going back in the direction it was under former coach Ole Werner. Both failed to reach the European Cup twice together, and now Bremen are fighting against relegation. Weiser made it clear that he didn’t want to get too close to current coach Daniel Thioune. Thioune has only been in charge for eight games after taking over from Horst Steffen.
There were players gone who would now be mourned. According to Weiser, these decisions were “a bit negligent”. “We now have to somehow manage to work on that and improve it for next year,” he added: “The whole club was actually striving for something different than where we are now. That’s where I personally want to go and I hope that we can somehow shape it together.”

Werder Bremen’s Fritz: “We will work on this internally”
The criticism is part of that which has been directed at managing director Clemens Fritz for months. The club and Fritz are accused of misconduct in transfer policy.
Fritz only heard fragments of the Weiser interview, as he said after the game. “We will of course work on this internally,” the ex-professional also announced. “I sat with him a few weeks ago. A good, very open and honest conversation with him. For me it’s a bit incomprehensible, these statements that he has now made.”
Weiser suffered a torn cruciate ligament last summer and has been forced to watch since then. But he wants to return to the pitch in two or three weeks. It is unclear what will happen next for the veteran from the summer onwards; his contract with the Green-Whites is expiring. Despite the criticism, he emphasized that he felt “very comfortable” in Bremen. He has been active for the Hanseatic League since 2021 and has played 123 games so far – more than for any other club in his career.
