This is a practice-oriented course that should increase the digital security of care providers and their clients. This is done through clear tips and recognizable examples, based on the experience of cyber prevention advisors.
Digital security starts nearby
First-line care providers are close to people’s homes every day. They enjoy trust and are often the first to notice when something is wrong. Today, that trust also concerns digital matters. More and more people from Kortrijk are confronted with fake text messages, phishing emails or phone calls from so-called bank employees. Care providers are often asked questions: “Is this safe?” or “Is this message correct?” The City of Kortrijk is responding to this with this training.
Flood of attempts
Ruth Vandenberghe, mayor of Kortrijk: “In recent months we have seen a veritable flood of phishing attempts. Even for those who are very digitally savvy, it is difficult to see what is real or counterfeit. The police do what they can, but often the money has already disappeared abroad. But the most important thing is of course to prevent this from happening as much as possible. These care providers are often a confidant for their clients and can therefore help to protect them.”
Maxim Veys, councilor for Care and Allemaal Digitaal: “Older people in particular who need some support in the digital world are often the target of scammers. With this new offer we ensure that people who care for them, such as home care workers and cleaning assistants, are well trained to prevent this.”
