Lindsey Vonn was trained by Norwegian Aksel Lund Svindal around the Olympic Games. Apparently this has come to an end.

Aksel Lund Svindal is no longer coach of ski racer Lindsey Vonn. “I think it’s over. Unfortunately, she now needs more physiotherapists and doctors than ski coaches,” Svindal told the Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang. The two-time Olympic champion and five-time world champion took on the task at Vonn’s side in the summer of 2025 and celebrated some successes with the American. Vonn won two World Cup races and was on the podium in every downhill race of the season leading up to the Olympics.

But her serious fall in Cortina d’Ampezzo changed the collaboration. Vonn’s season – and presumably her career – was over with immediate effect. The 41-year-old’s sadness was noticeable, said Aksel Lund Svindal: “As short as the news was, she somehow seemed a bit withdrawn. But now it seems as if she’s back at it again – and that’s nice to see.”

Vonn keeps her fans updated on all developments on her Instagram profile. It will take some time before she is completely healed from her Olympic injury. But mentally the shock has been overcome. “I think she’s fine now,” Svindal said.

What will happen next for the Norwegian himself is still unclear. He is himself the TV presenter of the show “Mesternes Mester” in his home country, which is difficult to combine with the many trips during a ski season.

Nevertheless, there are apparently some coaching inquiries for Aksel Lund Svindal. “That’s nice,” said the honored ex-athlete. “At the same time, I also know that I didn’t actually plan on working as a trainer this winter. It was a lot of fun, but it was exactly what I had imagined: a travel burden that can’t be easily reconciled with family life. That’s why it’s a little difficult for me to travel around for another winter.”
