And now, of all times, Harry Kane is giving the club a headache. More specifically, it’s about the ankle, as Vincent Kompany explained in a press conference on Friday.
Kane had “trained well” with the England national team until last Sunday, Kompany reported, then he “at some point felt his ankle”. Kane will therefore not be used on Saturday. “It’s not nice, I would have liked to have him there,” said the coach. However, the Belgian is more optimistic about the premier class: “I’m positive about Tuesday.” Kane should therefore be available again in Madrid. Nevertheless, the ankle problems come at the wrong time.

The top striker was forced to watch England’s friendly against Japan from the bench and watch his team fail to fill the void he left behind. Phil Foden should replace Kane on the nine. A failed experiment, the “Three Lions” coach Thomas Tuchel even questioned whether Foden would be allowed to go to the World Cup after Foden’s botched performance.
At FCB, the question of Kane’s replacement looks rosier – for example, Serge Gnabry Kane could step in in the center of the attack. But the actual representative of the Englishman, Nicolas Jackson is still suspended for the game in Freiburg after his red card in the game at Bayer Leverkusen. Kompany didn’t want to reveal how he would respond to this: “We’re trying to make logical decisions that will help us.”
Manuel Neuer again “One hundred percent fit”
Apart from Kane, the squad is “about what it needs to be before the big games,” said Kompany. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, for example, is returning. The now 40-year-old had been missing since a small torn muscle fiber in his left calf at the beginning of March. “Manu is 100 percent fit,” assured Kompany.
Jamal Musiala (pain reaction on the operated left foot), Alphonso Davies (strained hamstring muscles in the right leg) and Aleksandar Pavlovic (hip problems) are also alternatives for Kompany. “As far as the minutes are concerned and who can start 100%, we’ll see,” Kompany said cautiously at the press conference.
The Bayern coach described offensive star Musiala and full-back Davies as “real options.” However, whether they could play three games in a week or even over 90 minutes is a different question. “But there is no longer this luxury of being able to choose a lot,” said Kompany. “We have to win. Every player has to reach their best level and deliver the maximum.”
