Details about the discovery of the art treasures are not yet known. Major speculation has therefore also started in Romanian media, says journalist Janneke Vos, who lives in Romania. “People here are anxiously awaiting the press conference later. The news channels have been making different statements so far, one reports that everything has been found, the other that only two of the three bracelets have been found.”
The Romanians also guess at the condition of the art treasures, Vos explains. “The treasures are said to have been buried in the ground in the Netherlands. The former director of the museum (who was fired after the art theft, ed.) said in the media that the helmet was damaged. Other media do not report anything about damage, so the sounds are very variable.”
What Vos mainly sees in the media is surprise at the find. “This is really unexpected news for Romania. Hope had long been given up, everything financially had already been dealt with. So an end had been put to it.” According to the journalist, Romanians are pleasantly surprised by the news that the treasures they held have been found.
