Collapsed in the middle of the show: Megan Thee Stallion was taken to the hospital after her “Moulin Rouge” performance. What happened?

Megan Thee Stallion had to interrupt her “Moulin Rouge” show. The rapper recently joined the cast of “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” in New York.

Known for hits like “Savage,” “WAP” and “Body,” she won three Grammys in 2021: for Best Rap Song, Best New Artist and Best Rap Performance.

Broadway debut just a week ago

Megan Thee Stallion made her Broadway debut just a week ago, on March 24th. She wrote on Instagram about the announcement: “HOTTIES I’M ON BROADWAY!!” After the new cast was announced in February, she also said, “Stepping onto the Broadway stage and joining the team of ‘Moulin Rouge! The Musical’ is an absolute honor. I’ve always believed in developing myself creatively and theater is definitely a new opportunity that I’m really looking forward to.”

First female cast in the lead role

In the musical, the rapper plays the role of “Zidler” and should play this role until May 17, 2026. The character is based on the director and co-founder of the “Moulin Rouge” variety theater in Paris, Charles Ziegler. She takes on the leading role in the musical, which is based on the 2001 film by director Baz Luhrmann. Called “Harold Zidler” in the musical, the role was originally cast by Danny Burstein, who even received a Tony Award for it. Most recently, Bob the Drag Queen brought the role to the stage. Megan Thee Stallion is the first female cast in this lead role. She also brings two of her hits to the show: “Savage” and “Body” are presented in the new screening.

Show interrupted

But now the dream is over again. The performance on Tuesday evening had to be interrupted because 31-year-old Megan Thee Stallion became ill during the performance.

Entertainment news correspondent Loren LoRosa reported on X that Megan was seen in some opening scenes before the show was halted. The audience was asked to remain seated. After some time, the screening continued – but without the rapper in the lead role, who was replaced by an understudy.

Megan Thee Stallion was reportedly taken directly to a nearby hospital and examined. Further updates will be shared as soon as new information becomes available, a spokesman told US media. What exactly the rapper has is currently unknown. Her hairstylist wrote on X: “Let’s all pray for Megan, we’re all in the hospital right now.”

It is uncertain whether the musician can continue to star in the piece. Her fans are currently waiting for news about her health.
