According to the Maritime and Coastal Services Agency (MDK), owner of the lighthouse, there was no deliberate dimming at the request of residents or project developers. In 2023, the old halogen lamps were replaced by energy-efficient LED lighting.
“This is accompanied by a saving of 95 percent: from 2,000 watts to approximately 100 watts,” says spokesperson Dries Derudder. “LED light provides a more concentrated beam of light, which sometimes makes it feel less intense. But at sea the lighthouse still shines far enough, from 25 to 22 miles. The function is retained.”
