A car crashed into the Edison Bridge in Hoogeveen around 10 p.m. Both the bridge and the car suffered considerable damage.
Emergency services quickly arrived to help the driver. After a medical check, the ambulance crew took the driver to the hospital.
It is not yet known how the accident could happen.
