“We have never experienced this before”: rush for fixed energy contracts with prices shooting up to 40 percent from tomorrow

“This is a tsunami.” Sign a contract quickly before it’s too late: today it’s all hands on deck on the energy market. With expected price increases of up to 35 to 40 percent from tomorrow for gas – good for hundreds of euros extra per year – tens of thousands of Flemish people are trying to secure a permanent contract at the last minute. The result: overloaded call centers, faltering websites and suppliers who can barely handle the influx. Marc Cornelis (64) from Hoboken was able to sign a permanent contract at the last minute, after a true war of attrition.
