What happened to “Euphoria”? Season 3 shows Rue as a drug smuggler, cuts like an action film – fans are wondering where the high school vibe has gone.
The third season of the high school drama series “Euphoria” has received a lot of criticism even before its official release. The final season of the HBO show is scheduled to appear on April 12, 2026 – but the promotional phase is not going as smoothly as in previous years.
First the departure of the musician Labrinth, who gave the series its unique sound character, then a lot of criticism for the series poster.
A second trailer was released on March 31st. The first, which had been on display since mid-January, raised many questions among fans. Can the new clip answer these questions?
Rue in Mexico, Cassie as a cam girl
The trailer shows main character Rue being chased and ultimately questioned by the police. The character played by Zendaya struggled with substance abuse in the first few seasons. In the third season she is now in Mexico and has to smuggle drugs across the border. Meanwhile, her former high school friends Cassie and Nate are married. Cassie works as a cam girl and is supported by Maddy – her best friend, with whom she has apparently reconciled.
The new season takes place about five years after the end of the last season – so the high school charm is gone.
Not in high school anymore
Fans also complain about this, and they have mixed opinions about the new trailer. “So this show went from a teen drama to GTA!!???,” one fan posted on
Even if the earlier seasons didn’t show any really harmless high school students – the vibe is significantly different. Less drama, more action series. Faster cuts, no more dreamy aesthetics that so characterized the series in the first seasons.
What remains, however, is the chaos in which the characters find themselves and become increasingly entangled. The fans also notice this: “That looks chaotic. I’m excited” and “It gives me goosebumps – they should have released this trailer first, oh my God.”
Large parts of the cast are returning
Large parts of the ensemble are back: Zendaya as Rue, Sydney Sweeney as Cassie, Jacob Elordi as Nate, Alexa Demie as Maddy, Hunter Schafer as Jules and Maude Apatow as Lexi. Eric Dane, who recently passed away, also appears as Cal Jacobs in the third season.
Despite the changed music, new aesthetics and lukewarm trailer reactions, fans probably won’t miss the finale of the drama series. From April 13th it can be seen in Germany on WOW or Sky.
