The National School of Buenos Aires was once again at the center of the public scene after the viralization of a video on social networks in which a teacher, identified as Walter Escobarrebukes and threatens a group of students as they leave the establishment, in an episode that generated strong political and educational repercussions.
Escobar works as a teacher at the institution—dependent on the University of Buenos Aires—and, according to the images released, he was involved in a discussion with high school students who were carrying out political activity in the vicinity of the school. The exchange quickly escalated in tone and led to intimidating expressions on the part of the teacher towards one of the young people, a minor.
In the audiovisual recording, which was widely distributed, he is heard saying: “When you become an adult, I am going to lower all your teeth,” and when asked by the student whether it was a threat, he responded: “I am not going to threaten you because you are a minor.” The episode occurred on a public road, in the vicinity of the historic educational institution.
The discussion had a political undertone and escalated until it became an aggressive verbal exchange. In another part of the incident, the teacher also said: “Go call the police, idiot,” before leaving the scene. In another sequence of the same episode, he is heard warning: “If the new law comes out, I will wait for you here on April 2,” in what was interpreted as an escalation of the verbal conflict.
The dissemination of the video caused an immediate repudiation on social networks and in educational settings, where Escobar’s role as a teacher with secondary students was especially questioned. The seriousness of the incident lies not only in the content of the threats, but also in the pedagogical and authority link that unites it with the students involved.
About the fact, Alejandro AlvarezUndersecretary of University Policies of the Nation, stated: “As I am informed by the authorities of the UBA, on whom the National College of Buenos Aires depends, the aggressor will be subjected to summary and separated preventively. We will be following these issues very closely according to the instructions of the Minister Sandra Pettovello“. On social networks, the journalist Eduardo Feinmann He stated: “Very serious. He should be kicked out of school” and sharing Alvarez’s tweet he added: “He has to be outside.”
At first, there was no extensive public statement from the school authorities, but it emerged that the case was taken with institutional concern and internal actions were initiated to evaluate what happened and determine possible sanctions. Sources linked to the institution indicated that the teacher’s behavior will be analyzed within the framework of the rules of coexistence and the teaching statute, in line with the seriousness that an episode of these characteristics implies in the educational field.
The case also opened a broader debate on the treatment of political differences in educational spaces and the use of verbal violence in contexts where minors intervene. While the repercussions continue, the episode consolidated itself as one of the most resonant recent events in the university environment in a week of protests and tariff demands, by teachers of institutions of this type throughout the country.
