A cyclist left the road at Ketenbaan in Dorst around nine o’clock on Sunday evening and ended up in the ditch next to the cycle path. The man was cycling with a woman on the dark, narrow cycle path in a forest area when things went wrong. A girl who passed by called the emergency services.
The girl saw a light in the ditch, saw the woman and then the man in the water. The emergency services arrived en masse. An air ambulance also landed in the meadow.
The victim was removed from the ditch and resuscitated for a long time. The man was then rushed to hospital. The woman was not injured in the fall.
A fire truck got stuck in the mud on the forest path during the rescue attempt. A tractor had to pull the car out of the mud. The police closed the area for investigation.
