The women from FC Carl Zeiss Jena have scored an important point in the fight to stay in the league. In the East duel against RB Leipzig, the Thuringians prevented their next defeat with a dream goal despite being outnumbered.

The FC Carl Zeiss Jena footballers have new hope of staying in the Bundesliga. Thanks to a dream goal from Joker Isabella Jaron, the bottom of the table managed to score 1-1 (0-1) in the East derby against RB Leipzig at the start of the 22nd matchday in their own stadium despite being outnumbered. Thanks to the draw, the Jena team moved up one point to the first non-relegation place four game days before the end of the season, and the gap is now four points. Leipzig remains in tenth place.

Baum puts Leipzig in front – Jaron equalizes with a free kick

Lisa Baum (22nd minute) scored Leipzig’s goal to the cheers of numerous traveling fans. Jaron (81.), who came on as a substitute in the second half, cleverly converted a direct free kick from a long distance to ensure a draw. Previously, Jena’s Felicia Sträßer had to leave the field with a yellow-red card in the 63rd minute. Jena acted with commitment for long stretches, but was often too harmless in front of the Leipzig goal. Nevertheless, the hosts managed to increase the pressure in the second half through high pressing. Jaron also missed the best chance until the equalizer in the 58th minute.

RB expands series

Thanks to the draw, RB Leipzig are unbeaten in seven games since the 0:3 at the beginning of the year against champions and league leaders FC Bayern Munich. Leipzig won 2-0 against Jena in the first half of the season. During the overall confident performance at Jena’s Ernst Abbe sports field, the absence of midfielder Lou-Ann Joly due to an ankle injury was hardly noticeable. However, the RB players missed too many good scoring opportunities and therefore had to live with the draw.
