What happens if you take the trend towards indie music, the nostalgic exaggeration of the late noughties and early 2010s and think about it further? A band like Fcukers, for which the very cool New York musicians Shanny Wise and Jackson Walker Lewis turned their backs on their respective indie bands and immersed themselves in the rave sound of nightlife.
Her songs like the single “I Like It Like That” or “If You Want To Party Come Over To My House” oscillate somewhere between pop gem and celebration board – a combination that has not only convinced tastemakers like the music editors of the venerable BBC, but also colleagues from James Murphy from LCD Soundsystem (who invited her to a remix), Charli xcx (who booked her as DJs for her Coachella after-show party) to Tame Impala and Haim, who took the team, which had shrunk from a trio to a duo, on tour. And of course half of the fashion world, from Louis Vuitton to Celine, is currently adorning itself with the band’s coolness.
Fcukers sound like hedonism in times when there isn’t that much to celebrate (“Play Me”), like romance on the dance floor (“Feel The Real”) – and generally like an exuberant embrace of life (which can sometimes incorporate sound system elements like on “TTYGF”) – and like the sound of the times. Where Fcukers are currently standing is in front.
