Lindsey Buckingham has outlined his plans for 2026 – and that could also include some kind of reunion with Stevie Nicks.
In a new video on his Instagram account – where he recently hilariously attempted to decipher Gen-Z slang with his kids – the singer and guitarist explained that he has plenty of projects in the pipeline despite the situation in the country. “I’m still very, very rooted in my creative life,” he said. “I’ve been working on a new solo album for a few years now and it’s just one song away from being finished.”
Buckingham added that in addition to the solo album, the upcoming Fleetwood Mac documentary could also be released this year. There is no official release date yet, but Frank Marshall is directing the project for Apple. It features interviews with the four central surviving band members: Buckingham, Nicks, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. “These are two very concrete things that are in the starting blocks this year,” he said.
Reunion is in the air
Most notable was Buckingham’s admission about his relationship with Nicks. Last year, the two re-released their joint support album “Buckingham Nicks” for the first time in decades and have apparently become closer again. “I think on a more general level, the energy around what ‘Buckingham Nicks’ did – which was sort of a rekindling of the connection between Stevie and I – has, on a larger scale, set in motion something that’s in the air,” he said. “What that means specifically, I don’t want to speculate yet. But I believe with all my heart that it will translate into something good, something wonderful, something necessary and something absolutely fitting.”
It was already clear that Buckingham and Nicks were talking to each other again last fall – when they spoke in detail about the “Buckingham Nicks” track “Frozen Love” on the Song Exploder podcast. But this is the first time that Buckingham has openly discussed a possible reunion in 2026. What exactly is meant by “larger scale” – whether it would be a Buckingham Nicks project or a Fleetwood Mac tour – remains unclear. Nicks told Rolling Stone 2024 that she would never consider a Fleetwood Mac tour following the death of her bandmate Christine McVie – but that was before her reconciliation with Buckingham. And next year there will be an anniversary: “Rumours” will celebrate its 50th birthday. Time will tell. Until then, we have no choice but to listen to “Crystal” and not give up hope.
