HBO director Casey Bloys explains why the new “Harry Potter” series cannot be released annually and what fans should know about the new edition.
These are exciting times for Harry Potter fans. There are some updates from the last few days regarding the new series edition of JK Rowling’s world-famous book series. The first trailer was recently released and it was also announced that the series will show some things that have not been seen before in the film series. Now the HBO director spoke about the project and gave another update.
Patience between individual seasons
The new adaptation of the Harry Potter story will last ten seasons. Casey Bloys, HBO Max director, now gave information about how regularly the individual seasons should appear. It looks like fans will have to wait a little bit after each new adventure that Harry Potter goes through before the next one flickers across their home screens.
Casey Bloys gave an interview to the Hollywood Reporter in which he explained that the production of some series is more difficult and time-consuming than others. Especially those that would require extensive “world design” required significantly more time to produce. The statement said: “You have to weigh it up. For some of the larger series like “Harry Potter”, “House of the Dragon” or “The Last of Us” – series in which a huge universe is built up – it would be nice if they were published annually. But from a production perspective, that’s just not possible.”
He continued: “It’s not like everyone involved just takes their time and sits around. These shows are complicated to make. To bring a show back to the screen every year, you have to start from scratch – with people who know how to do it […] – and it’s helpful if you don’t have to render dragons or zombies and things like that.”
Lots of new things in the new edition
The new edition of the Harry Potter series actually has a lot to offer. In addition to a completely new cast, scenes are shown that have never been seen before – such as Hermione receiving the famous invitation letter to Hogwarts or new teaching scenes. The series is scheduled to appear Christmas 2026.
