Zayn has released a new single: “Sideways.” The intimate R&B number is the latest release from the upcoming album “Konnakol”out April 17th via Mercury Records.
In the track, Zayn looks back on a lost love. “I miss looking at you sideways/ face-to-face with your lips on mine,” he sings. “And our legs on the pillowcase/sideways, late at night with your love lying next to mine.”
“Konnakol” follows on “Room Under the Stairs”the 2024 stripped-down album that Zayn recorded with collaborator Dave Cobb. Last month he released the emotional lead single “Die For Me”. The album was co-produced by Zayn alongside Malay, with whom he previously worked on Mind Of Mine and Icarus Falls.
What “Konnakol” means
“Konnakol, in its original meaning, refers to the art of creating percussive sounds with the voice – but what it means to me lies in a much deeper place. It is a sound that carries the reverberations of a time before words existed,” Zayn explained in a statement. “I have always used my heritage as a source of inspiration since I began making my own music. This album is an evolution of that understanding – I know now more than ever who I am, where I come from and where I want to go.”
In support of the album, Zayn will be embarking on a major “Konnakol” tour. The worldwide concert series with 31 dates begins on May 12th in Manchester, England, at the AO Arena and takes him to cities such as London, Los Angeles, Mexico City and São Paulo. The finale is November 20th in Miami at the Kaseya Center.
One Direction – who does what?
Zayn is one of several former One Direction members releasing new music this year. In January, Louis Tomlinson released his new album “How Did I Get Here?” which contains the single “Imposter”. The busiest, Harry Styles, released his new solo album earlier this month “Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally” and appeared at the start of the promotion on “Saturday Night Live”, among others.
