After five years in the Juventus youth sector he moved from the Under 17 of Alessandria to the Under 18 of Monza, up to the Primavera of Reggiana. And now in Serie A with the Biancocelesti

March 26 – 1.37pm – MILAN

Juve is looking for reliable goalkeepers. But he had one in his hand that he didn’t have enough faith in. This is Edoardo Motta, discovered at 11 years old and sold too early, first on loan and then on a permanent basis, after just five years in the club’s youth teams. Now 2005 makes Lazio happy: with Provedel’s injury he became the starter, the transfer from Reggiana which took place in January thus took on all the characteristics of an excellent deal.

discovery

Juve discovered Motta at 11 years old, when he was playing for Soccer Spartera in Biella. The goalkeeper, from July 2016 onwards, has shown himself in various youth tournaments, often awarded as best goalkeeper. After an initial period of growth in Vinovo, however, the club decided to let him play with greater continuity by selling him on a temporary basis to other teams: Edoardo Motta moved from the Under 17 of Alessandria to the Under 18 of Monza, up to the Primavera of Reggiana. In Emilia he was acquired definitively and at a certain point joined the first team, there too waiting for an opportunity. The move to Lazio was then useful in making another leap in terms of ambitions: but few would have bet on such an immediate launch. However, since Provedel’s injury, Mandas’ heir has provided balance and has been reliable enough to take the spotlight and the compliments.

regret

And Juventus? In Turin they have remained watching for now. The goalkeeper in fact moved permanently to Reggiana with just a percentage of the possible resale, evidently after Juve reflected on his potential. The Emilian club sold him to Lazio for almost a million, now he is worth at least four times more and is only at the beginning of his rise. Motta has already been called up to the Under 21 national team, but he doesn’t hide the fact that he dreams of landing in the senior selection. In short, Lazio has secured a starter, while Continassa continues to evaluate the goalkeeping department: both Di Gregorio and Perin should say goodbye in the summer, the club is studying credible solutions. Motta is not yet at the level needed under Mole, but still having a say on the player’s future would have been useful to Juve, at least in perspective, also for the purposes of the federal lists. It may be a regret.
