Lindsey Vonn shares a lot with her fans on her social media profiles. Also the grief over her mother, who died four years ago.
US star Lindsey Vonn has sent an emotional message to her late mother. The 41-year-old first published a video on Instagram that shows Lindy Anne Lund after her daughter won bronze at the 2018 Olympic Games. Vonn asked: “How proud are you?”, Lund replied: “Like never before in my entire life.”
Vonn’s mother died in August 2022 at the age of 70. Lund had previously been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, an incurable disease of the motor nervous system. “I wish you could have been here this year,” Vonn wrote under the video. The alpine skier would like to know “whether you would be even prouder now than at the 2018 Olympic Games when I won bronze.”
The speed specialist fought her way back into the World Cup after a long break and operations and even competed at the Winter Olympics in Cortina d’Ampezzo. She suffered a complex fracture of her left tibia in a violent fall. As she later described, only an emergency operation prevented her leg from having to be amputated. In addition, Vonn broke his right ankle in the accident and was therefore unable to perform. After her hospital stay in Italy, Vonn was taken to the airport by ambulance and flown to the USA.
“I bet you would have cheered me up in the hospital and made everything better. You always gave me the greatest perspective and I try to keep that up, especially now,” Vonn wrote, adding, “At least I have this video and when I doubt myself I can always watch it. I miss you every day and love you more than anything.”
Vonn’s focus is now on full recovery and getting back to everyday life. The 41-year-old also explained that she doesn’t want to make a decision about a possible comeback yet.
