A 60-year-old sent racist messages to England’s European champion Jess Carter during the European Championships. Now he has been convicted.
An English court has sentenced a 60-year-old to a suspended sentence for racially insulting the English European soccer champion Jess Carter. The man sent the national player two racist messages via TikTok during the European Championships last year.
The six weeks in prison were suspended for twelve months. He also received a four-year ban from football events. At an earlier hearing he had pleaded guilty to sending a grossly offensive message over a public communications network.
Carter is the fiancée of German national goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger. Both play for US champions Gotham FC. The 28-year-old defended the title with the English national team at the European Championships in Switzerland. The English Football Association (FA) welcomed the decision to hold the man “accountable for the disgusting messages”.
