The fourth season has just aired and the next one has already been announced.
It was already certain that a fifth and sixth season of “Bridgerton” would appear. The Netflix romance series with a fictional historical reference will now also cover the love stories of the two sisters Eloise and Francesca. Only the exact order of which Bridgerton sister comes first has not yet been determined.
Many fans assumed that the fifth season would shed light on the character of Eloise – after all, she has been a main character in the series for the last four seasons. Eloise probably won’t find a husband for the time being. But neither does Francesca.
First lesbian love story
Because the fifth season of “Bridgerton” revolves around the love story of Francesca and Michaela. For the third Bridgerton sister, the last season ended with a stroke of fate: the death of her husband John.
However, anyone who knows the books in the series knows that Francesca then meets her late husband’s cousin. Michael has now become cousin Michaela in the series – so “Bridgerton” presents its first lesbian love story.

The new season of “Bridgerton” picks up two years after the end of the fourth. Netflix describes it as follows: “The fifth season begins two years after John’s death, when Francesca decides to go back to dating for practical reasons. But when John’s cousin Michaela returns to London to look after the Kilmartin estate, Francesca’s mixed emotions make her question whether she should stick to her pragmatic intentions or pursue her inner longings.”
How does the Queen react?
Many “Bridgerton” fans are excited to see how the series will implement the queer love story. After all, Queen Charlotte was already very progressive for her time in the last few seasons. After the last season highlighted the class differences of the time, one now wonders whether the Queen is ready to give her blessing to a lesbian relationship – after all, Benedict and Sophie only found happiness with a lot of strategy and secrecy.

This time, the “Bridgerton” audience doesn’t have to wait as long as between the last seasons. Showrunner Jess Brownell explained that the release cycles will be shortened compared to previous seasons. This means that the new season could be seen on Netflix from mid-2027.
