Alois Schwartz becomes the new coach of Preußen Münster

As of: March 25, 2026 • 12:38 p.m

Alois Schwartz was introduced as a coach at second division team Preußen Münster and is optimistic about the relegation battle.

Alois Schwartz appeared relaxed, calm and full of anticipation on Wednesday when the new coach of Preußen Münster answered questions from media representatives at a press conference: “We quickly agreed, it didn’t take 24 hours,” he explained about the discussions with those responsible.

Schwartz: “Don’t hit it with an ax now”

The chemistry seemed to be right, but his contract initially only applies to the remaining seven games of the season. “Then we can always talk about more,” said Schwartz, who most recently coached third division club Saarbrücken until the end of November. According to the new man on the side, a longer commitment is at least conceivable

But first Schwartz has the task of leading Prussia to stay in the league: “The team is competitive, they have proven that. Only the lightness is gone and now it has to be restored.” He also explained how he would find this and what he would like to change: “I’m not going to go into the players’ locker room with an ax and hit it. Stability is important now.”

Everything is possible in the relegation battle

Lightness and stability are also urgently needed: Münster slipped to the bottom of the 2nd Bundesliga table after three defeats in a row. After the international break comes the extremely important basement duel against Holstein Kiel. The upcoming opponent ultimately occupies relegation place 16 with a two-point lead.

But the real goal of the Adlerträger is actually the safe shore – i.e. at least 15th place. That doesn’t seem impossible, because there is a fierce relegation battle raging in the 2nd Bundesliga. Even Dresden in twelfth place is only three points ahead of Münster.

Many direct duels in April

April will be crucial for the Prussians and their new manager Schwartz: In addition to Kiel, they also face their direct competitors Fürth and Bielefeld, with the top duel at FC Schalke 04 in between.

If the SCP is successful this month, it could mean staying safely in the 2nd Bundesliga – but if it is unsuccessful, relegation could become a very realistic scenario even before the final rounds in May.
