Antoine Griezmann is ending his time at Atlético Madrid and moving on to the North American professional league. Before that, he wants to write one last chapter with the club.
French world champion Antoine Griezmann is leaving Atlético Madrid at the end of the season and moving to MLS club Orlando City. Both clubs announced this on Tuesday. The 35-year-old has signed a two-year contract – with an option for a further year.
In a statement, Atlético said: “The striker traveled to Orlando with the club’s permission during the first team’s two-day break to complete his contract with the Florida club.” In 488 games for the capital club, Griezmann scored 211 goals, surpassing Luis Aragonés’ previous record.
Rumors about a transfer have been circulating for weeks – this is his tenth season at Atlético, and he was under contract for Madrid in two different phases. Only from 2014 to 2019, after which he moved to Barcelona and returned in 2021 on a two-year loan and then permanently. Griezmann had stated that he wanted to finish the current season. His goal is to win a second title with the club after the Europa League in 2018.
