There’s good news for Inter Milan’s Yann Bisseck in the Serie A market value update. The 25-year-old central defender’s market value climbs from 35 million to 40 million euros after a difficult start to the season. Although only two German defenders have a higher market value than the Cologne native, he was not selected for the international matches in March. Nevertheless, he is happy about his current situation.
After Nico Schlotterbeck from Borussia Dortmund (market value: 55 million) and Malick Thiaw from Newcastle United (45 million euros), Bisseck is now the most valuable defender with a German passport. He is also one of the highest-rated defenders in Serie A after the first upgrade since the summer of 2025 – only his teammates Alessandro Bastoni (70 million) and Federico Dimarco (50 million) as well as Naples’ Alessandro Buongiorno (45 million) are more valuable.
After Bisseck missed large parts of the summer preparation with a thigh problem, he had a difficult time at Inter in the first half of the season. In Serie A he was only on the pitch in six of 17 games until the turn of the year, but it is hard to imagine the starting line-up without him in 2026. “The start of the season wasn’t easy because of my injury. That’s why I’m even more pleased to now have a place in this top team again and that I’m given multiple positions, regardless of the system. I’m working every day to become the best footballer I can be,” Bisseck told Transfermarkt with a view to his new market value. He was on the field in twelve of 13 Serie A games in 2026, eleven of which were in the starting line-up. He was able to hold his own against well-known competition from Bastoni, Manuel Akanji, Stefan de Vrij and Francesco Acerbi.
Market value coordinator attests to Bisseck’s good development
Market value coordinator and Italy expert Jatin Dietl also attests to Bisseck’s good development: “Bisseck has eliminated his tendency to make mistakes and is now convincing not only in defense, but also as a threat in attack thanks to his physicality and his header strength.” The ex-Cologne player has been involved in four goals in Serie A this season and regularly causes danger with his advances.
Even in October, when Bisseck did not yet have a regular place at Inter, his coach Cristian Chivu praised him for his work. “My staff and I want a high defensive line, but the defenders also have to understand when it’s good to take a risk or try to anticipate. (…) So Yann’s characteristics were exactly right for that,” said the 45-year-old, who used to be a central defender himself and wore the Nerazzurri jersey 169 times. “When I was a player, I wasn’t as fast as Bisseck, but I learned a few little secrets that I can pass on to my defenders.”
Overall, Inter’s squad value fell by EUR 30.5 million to EUR 636.3 million – clearly the biggest loss in Serie A in this update. Together with storm talent Pio Esposito, who increases by 10 million to 45 million euros, Bisseck is one of the few winners at the league leaders. Defense chief Bastoni as well as midfield engine Nicolò Barella and attacker Marcus Thuram (50 million each) fall by 10 million euros. In addition, the market values of Davide Frattesi (-6 million to 22 million), Manuel Akanji and Hakan Çalhanoğlu (-4 million each to 18 million) are falling.
Third most valuable defender: Bisseck not in the DFB squad
With his profile of speed, physical strength and goal threat, Bisseck is part of the German national team’s orbit. Although only two German defenders are more valuable than the Inter professional, he is not included in the squad for the international matches in March. National coach Julian Nagelsmann gave preference to Schlotterbeck, Thiaw, Jonathan Tah, Waldemar Anton and Antonio Rüdiger.
Bisseck, who has played for all of the DFB’s junior national teams since the U17s, was initially part of Nagelsmann’s squad. In March 2025 he made his debut in a 3-3 draw against Italy, his only appearance so far for the four-time world champions. If he confirms his form over the rest of the season and celebrates his second Scudetto with Inter, he will submit a letter of application for the 2026 World Cup.
