A cyclist was seriously injured in an accident this afternoon. This happened at the Wittewijk in Smilde. The victim was hit by a car.
It is still unclear how this could happen. The trauma helicopter arrived on the scene, as did an ambulance and the police. After stabilization, the victim was urgently transferred to the UMCG in Groningen.
The police have started an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
