Last week’s earthquake near Eleveld has so far resulted in 1,922 damage reports. The Mining Damage Commission received 1,189 and the Mining Damage Institute Groningen (IMG) received 733. This was reported by State Secretary Jo-Annes de Bat (CDA) of Economic Affairs and Climate to the House of Representatives.
The IMG also received 24 reports of an acutely unsafe situation as a result of the earthquake, which had a magnitude of 3.0 on the Richter scale. The ANP reports that in the vast majority of cases these reports turned out not to be too bad. Two situations are still being investigated.
The Mining Damage Committee reported earlier this week that many people in Drenthe have submitted their damage to the wrong counter. They should not be with the IMG, but with the Mining Damage Committee.
The IMG only handles damage caused by gas extraction from the Groningen field and the gas storage facilities at Norg and Grijpskerk. Damage caused by gas extraction from the field near Eleveld, such as last Saturday, is handled by the Mining Damage Committee.
People who have reported their damage to the ‘wrong’ counter, or have reported their damage twice, do not have to worry. The authorities ensure that the report reaches the correct desk.
