The Oscar gala opened immediately by acknowledging Timothée Chalamet, who is at the center of the commotion.

In a recent interview, Chalamet jokingly said that no one is interested in opera or ballet as art forms anymore. The speeches got the opera and ballet circles on their back legs worldwide. Many criticized Chalamet for being thoughtless and not wanting to support art forms.

The opening monologue also contained a reference to the recently held Superbowl, which caused political discord. US President Donald Trump did not like the fact that the halftime show performer was a Puerto Rican immigrant, Bad Bunny, rather than an American performer.
The organization Turning Point USA took action and organized a “patriotic” alternative during the Superbowl, where Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice and Gabby Barrett performed their own halftime show.
– I’m warning you. Tonight can get a little political. If that sounds bad to you, Kid Rock is hosting an alternative Oscars. It will be held at Dave & Buster’s across the street, O’Brien said at the Oscars.
Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos also got a cold ride. O’Brien said it was Sarandos’ first time in the theater.
– Why are they all together enjoying each other’s company? They would have to be home alone so I could commercialize it,” O’Brien said of portraying Sarandos.
