The restaurant world of the Lyyra block in Helsinki’s Hakaniemi has closed for good, and there are no new restaurants to replace it.

The restaurant world was in a central location, but just didn’t reach enough customers. Be the first to report on the closure Helsingin Sanomat.

We reached out to the manager of Niami, who owns the restaurant world property Markku Strömbergin. According to him, the operation of the restaurants at that location and concept was not profitable for the tenants or Niami.

– There were too few customers for these restaurants, says Strömberg.

The restaurant world located downstairs couldn’t find its right clientele for one reason or another. Strömberg isn’t sure if it could be because of the location.

– Yes, there was through traffic. I can’t say why people didn’t find it as a restaurant location. Maybe the concept was not one that would have pleased the customer, he reflects.

In the small restaurant world, there were several restaurants in the same area.

The situation is unfortunate for Niami and the restaurants that were in the restaurant world, because the leases ended on both sides.

– Overall, it is a great pity that the restaurant operation in that space will end.

According to Strömberg, something new is being planned for the premises of the restaurant world in the Lyyra block, but it has not yet been specified what it will be.

– At the moment, we are trying to find a new tenant, maybe some kind of different concept than the restaurant world that Ylva once acquired there. Probably something related to free time, he says.

– Now there are no agreements or negotiations so far that there would be an even better understanding of the schedule, but the goal is to get operations and facilities reopened there this year.

Until closing, restaurants Klandestina, Fafa’s and Bunker bar & lounge will operate in the restaurant world of the Lyyra block. In the past, restaurants Rikiyaki and Giant burger have also operated in the space. During Ylva’s time, a restaurant world called Urban gourmet operated in the premises, which went bankrupt in 2024.

Ylva is the real estate company of the Helsinki Student Union, which sold Lyyra to the Swedish real estate investment company Niami about a year ago.
