No red carpet, no shooting – but her living room. How a man violated Ariana Grande’s privacy and what the internet says about it.
It was supposed to be a relaxed evening in private – but an incident involving pop star Ariana Grande is currently causing discussions about privacy, respect and the limits of fan culture on the Internet.
Secret photos from the private living room
Ariana Grande spent an evening in her apartment with her partner Ethan Slater, her brother Frankie Grande and a few friends. The group had arranged to watch the reality show “RuPaul’s Drag Race” together.
An acquaintance of her brother apparently took advantage of this private situation. The man, who appears on TikTok under the name “fr4nqu1s” or Franco, secretly took several photos of Grande. The pictures show the singer in everyday moments: sitting relaxed on the sofa in front of the television, walking around her apartment or at the table.
Ariana Grande appears completely unaware that she is being photographed in the pictures. She is wearing a loose leisure outfit, her hair is unusually natural – tied in a bun and without any elaborate styling.
To prove that these were not AI-generated recordings, Franco published the images as so-called live photos.
Massive criticism from the community
The reactions online were completely different than Franco probably expected. Instead of curiosity or enthusiasm, sharp criticism quickly took over. Fans of the singer and numerous other people online condemned the action as disrespectful and invasive. Franco was increasingly called a “creep” in the comments. Many criticized the fact that someone had obviously used a private invitation to secretly take photos of a person and then distribute them publicly.
Within a short time, a wave of indignation developed. Numerous comments emphasized that celebrities also have a right to privacy – especially within their own homes.
Retreat into privacy
The criticism was not without effect. Shortly after the discussion gained momentum, Franco set his TikTok profile to private. This step was seen as ironic by many commentators: While he himself no longer wanted publicity, he had previously sought exactly this publicity at the expense of someone else’s privacy.
In addition, a livestream from the TikTok user caused further controversy. In it, he claimed, among other things, that Ariana Grande likes a “Maggie Zeggler” and finds her interesting because of an allegedly shared eating disorder. This could mean both Maddie Ziegler and Rachel Zegler, as he then added something that sounded like “the Snow White girl.” Rachel Zegler played this role.
He provided no evidence for this statement. He also stated that he took the photos in July 2025 and found it all funny because, in his opinion, he had not shared anything bad and she would not be harmed in any way.
A detail attracts attention
Despite the problematic circumstances and the fact that the photos are almost eight months old, the pictures caused another observation: They show Grande together with Ethan Slater in a relaxed, private situation. The photos seem to indirectly confirm that the two are still a couple.
Limits of fan culture and parasocial relationships
The current incident is one of a number of situations in which Ariana Grande has been confronted with abusive behavior from fans or strangers. An incident in November 2025 at the premiere of the film “Wicked: For Good” in Singapore was particularly impressive: a man jumped over a barrier, ran onto the red carpet and pounced on the singer. Grande appeared visibly shocked before her co-star Cynthia Erivo intervened and pushed the man away from her until security guards could intervene. The perpetrator was later arrested and convicted of public disorder.
In addition, there are other border crossings: attempted break-ins and stalking cases around their places of residence as well as invasive discussions about their bodies and their weight on social platforms and in tabloid media. This form of media observation is also increasingly viewed critically by many fans and commentators.
In light of a recent incident involving Rihanna – in which a woman was said to have shot at her home and whose social media activity suggested a parasocial fixation on the singer – the safety of celebrities is once again being discussed. Some fans are therefore expressing concerns: Even seemingly harmless photos from an apartment could provide clues to where they live and thus promote potentially dangerous situations.
In the case of Ariana Grande, at least a large part of the online community has taken an unusually clear position: a relaxed evening in your own living room should remain a protected space even for a global star.
