Lars Windhorst has publicly rejected a media report about his allegedly pledged shares in Hertha BSC. The 45-year-old entrepreneur responded to a report by the magazine “Business Insider“. “Clear denial to Business Insider: The Hertha shares of Peil Investment are neither pledged nor will they be foreclosed on,” wrote Windhorst, who has meanwhile transferred 374 million euros to Hertha through his investment company “Tennor”.
According to “Business Insider”, a notary from Amsterdam reported to Hertha a few days ago and announced in an email that the Dutch “Peil Investment BV” would be foreclosed on. According to the report, this also holds the Hertha shares and is said to be a subsidiary of Windhorst’s “Tennor Holding BV” group of companies. The compulsory auction is said to have been ordered by the District Court of Amsterdam on April 1st.

Financial bottleneck: Hertha investor Windhorst took out a loan
The background is a financial bottleneck in Windhorst in July 2020, which at that time took out a short-term loan of EUR 25 million from the company “S4 Limited” based on the Isle of Man. “Business Insider” writes, citing Dutch court documents, that “Tennor” “as security for the payment and repayment of the loan amount (…) granted S4 Limited a lien (…) on all shares in the capital of Peil Investment”.

The remaining amount should then be collected through legal channels. At the ordered foreclosure auction, “Peil Investment should be sold and handed over to the highest bidder” – so that the shares in Hertha are said to be auctioned. The notary wanted to know the value of the shares from the Berliners.
Windhorst’s spokesman had already denied the reports of “Business Insider” in the report. “The shares in Peil Investment are not pledged and will not be foreclosed on,” he explained. “The process you describe does not correspond to the current facts, but has long since been settled. The notary’s confirmation that you claimed to have initiated preparations for the foreclosure sale does not exist,” said Windhorst’s spokesman. To the “table footballspokesman Andreas Fritzenkötter confirmed these statements once again. Hertha BSC did not comment on the report.
