A long-lost concert film showing George Michael at the height of his early solo career, will be released in cinemas later this year – accompanied by a new 18-track album with unreleased recordings.
The previously unseen material has been restored and remastered and appears under the title “George Michael: The Faith Tour”. Shot during Michael’s first tour in 1988, the footage was shot via 14 cameras on 35mm film at two performances in Paris at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy – now known as the Accor Arena.
George Michael Entertainment announced the news in collaboration with Mercury Studios on Tuesday. Longtime collaborators Andy Morahan and David Austin directed the film. The producers promise that the film offers an “intimate yet explosive look at an artist in complete command of his voice and stagecraft.”
Honoring a career of the century
“‘George Michael: The Faith Tour’ is a tribute to ambition and fearless artistry at its peak – and a moment when the then 24-year-old George Michael changed the course of his career,” reads a press release. “This global cinematic event invites audiences to relive the power and joy of George Michael in full swing.”
Parallel to the worldwide theatrical release, George Michael Entertainment and Sony Music Entertainment are releasing new recordings by Michael under the title “The Faith Tour” – including tracks from his Wham! period as well as his solo work. Faith was Michael’s debut solo album in 1987, released after the worldwide success of Wham!. The project sold over ten million copies.
