The Los Angeles Police Department has released more details about the person charged with the alleged gun attack at Rihanna’s Beverly Hills-area estate was arrested.
On Sunday, police arrested Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, a 35-year-old woman, on suspicion of murder, a felony (Felony), an LAPD spokesman confirmed to ROLLING STONE. Ortiz was officially taken into custody shortly after 2 a.m. Monday; bail was set at $10,225,000. Formal charges are still pending.
The Los Angeles Times, citing law enforcement sources, reports that Ortiz allegedly fired several shots with an AR-15-style assault rifle, one of which penetrated a wall of the property. Rihanna was at home at the time of the attack, which occurred around 1:21 p.m., as was her partner A$AP Rocky and their children. Everyone remained unhurt. The suspects’ motive remains unclear; There is no known connection to Rihanna or A$AP Rocky. According to the New York Post, Ortiz allegedly sent bizarre messages to Rihanna on social media.
Suspects and their previous lives
In the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department inmate database, Ortiz is described as having blonde hair and brown eyes. The Orlando-based licensed speech therapist has been arrested multiple times in her home state, according to the Times report. Those arrests were related to a 2013 bankruptcy case, 2021 traffic negligence charges, and 2023 charges of domestic violence and assault. NBC News reported that Ortiz identifies herself as an Illinois native on social media.
Several media outlets report that Ortiz drove to Rihanna’s house in a white Tesla and opened fire from the vehicle. The Times reports that an LAPD radio call reported 10 shots fired, while NBC News reported four shots. According to the latter source, suspected bullet holes could be seen at the front entrance gate of the property. The vehicle then drove away, according to the Times, and was later spotted by a police helicopter in the parking lot of a shopping center in Sherman Oaks. Half an hour later, the police arrested the suspect.
“When they stopped and arrested the suspect, they searched the vehicle and found an assault rifle and seven shell casings,” LAPD spokesman Armen Arias told the Times.
Rihanna and Rocky are silent
Neither Rihanna nor A$AP Rocky have yet commented on the attack.
Rihanna recently posted a video showing that she is working on a follow-up to her last album “Anti” from 2016 – in addition to looking after her children.
