4 F-35s of the Royal Netherlands Air Force have just landed at the Bulgarian military airport Graf Ignatievo Air Base. It is located about 130 kilometers southeast of the capital Sofia. The Netherlands has offered the fighter aircraft to NATO.
Of the 4, 2 aircraft are used to monitor the airspace of the alliance on the eastern flank of the treaty area. Both other F-35s are spare. So commitment is guaranteed.
The Dutch pilots carry out their task together with Bulgarian colleagues.

The aircraft are now under the command of Supreme Allied Commander Europe (Saceur). State Secretary of Defense Christophe van der Maat waved off the pilots this morning at Leeuwarden Air Base.
