Last Monday, someone found a shoe with the foot of Yoran Krol, who has been missing since December 23, 2023, in a branch of the Beneden-Merwede. The police announced this on Friday evening. There are currently no indications to consider a crime.
A police spokesperson said on Friday evening that a passer-by found the shoe. The results of the investigation were returned on Friday evening.
Missing since 2023
Yoran was last seen on the night of December 23 to 24, 2023 at the De Pomp youth center in Almkerk. The 16-year-old boy from Sleeuwijk disappeared after a party.
A day later his bicycle was found on the Merwedebrug, about 12 kilometers from De Pomp. Later the boy’s coat was also found in the water near Papendrecht.
Various searches
Since then, various searches have been launched. The search was carried out with divers, sonar boats and an army of volunteers. One of the searches was the largest ever search with citizens in the Netherlands, 2,500 people participated. Yoran’s body was never found.
The police stopped searching in January 2024. A spokesperson indicated at the time that they assumed that Yoran ended up in the river and drowned. Due to the current there was a good chance he could have ended up in many places.
Book about missing persons
Yoran’s parents wrote a book about Yoran’s disappearance that will be released this month. In the book that Son Where Are You? is called, they put their emotions into words and the reader gets to know Yoran. In addition, father Daniël, mother Mirjam and their daughter Thirza share their insights about grief. They hope their words are encouraging to others dealing with grief.
