Nothing seems to beat pineapple and blue cheese as a pizza topping. At least, if you follow the pizza flavor favored by Finns.
Iltalehti asked several restaurant chains offering pizza for a list of the most popular and least popular pizzas and toppings. The restaurants were Kotipizza, Rosso and Rax Pizzabuffet, which operate all over Finland, and Via Tribunali, which cherishes the Neapolitan pizza tradition, and whose restaurants can be found in Helsinki, Turku and Tampere, among others.
Both Kotipizza’s and Rosso’s most popular list pizzas have a combination of pineapple and blue cheese. The only difference is that ham is preferred with pineapple and blue cheese in Kotipizza, while chicken is used with them in Rosso’s more popular pizza. In addition, Rosso is filled with BBQ sauce and arugula.
At Rax’s buffet, pizza is the most popular, with mozzarella and pepperoni toppings. The most popular additional filling is the blue cheese familiar to Finns.
Aurajuusto has been very popular before. In February 2026, Foodora, the food delivery service that stopped operating in Finland told in 2024, that the most popular pizza topping in the whole country is blue cheese, followed by pineapple.
Valio’s communication tells Iltalehte that the sale of blue cheese started to grow at the end of the 1980s, when it started to be used in cooking, including pizza. The inspiration came from the Italian blue cheese gorgonzola, which is used in pizzas in Italy.

At the other end of the Finnish pizza field is Via Tribunali, whose menus do not include pineapple or blue cheese, and neither do you choose pizzas of your choice. Italian blue cheese gorgonzola is used on pizzas instead.
The most popular pizza is the CEO Antti Kuitunen including the classic Margherita. It has San Marzano tomato, Fior di latte mozzarella, fresh basil, olive oil, and pecorino and parmesan cheese.
Don’t like these
The least popular at Rax are the vegan pizzas. The least popular additive is paprika.
Vegan pizza is also among the least popular at Rosso. Fillings include Vöneri, cherry tomatoes, fresh mushrooms, pickled red onion, paprika mayonnaise and arugula.
Head of Kotipizza’s external communications Nelli Sajakoski according to, vegan pizzas are sold more in big cities. Among the additional toppings, the least popular are reindeer dust and delicacy dust, which are designed specifically for the taste world of certain pizzas, and they do not necessarily work in self-selected pizzas.

The least ordered pizzas at Via Tribunal are also often completely vegan pizzas, or they have ingredients that Finns don’t usually eat in pizzas.
– For example, anchovy, which strongly divides opinions both for and against, Kuitunen says.
Although you cannot choose the toppings in the restaurant, you can leave them out if you wish. The most common fillings to leave out are various mushrooms and possible allergenic foods. However, the chain does not have complete data on the matter.
Geographical division
Kotipizza’s statistics also show regional differences.
– In Lapland, for example, the amount of Poro pizza and kebabs is highlighted, while in Central Ostrobothnia, for example, every third pizza contains Aura blue cheese, says the head of external communications Nelli Sajakoski.
The most popular toppings for Kotipizza’s self-selected pizza are pineapple, pepperoni sausage, blue cheese, ham and tuna in almost all Finnish cities. Ham and pineapple can be seen in the top positions. Custom pizza is Kotipizza’s most popular.
In Mariehamn, red onion is at the top of the five most popular toppings, which is not at the top at all in other cities.
Vaasa and Kajaani have a special feature, because in these pineapples do not make it to the top three, while in all other regions pineapples are at the top of the list.
In Turku, Mikkeli, Jyväskylä and Helsinki, aura cheese is preferred in self-choice pizza. In Vaasa, Seinäjoki, Oulu and Kajaani, on the other hand, tuna appears at the top of the list.
