The residents of the dune village felt a bang that lasted a few seconds around 5:45 p.m. and saw a large flame on the site of the adjacent Tata Steel factory. A local resident told NH that ‘his entire house was shaking’. “The windows were just about blown out. The dunes were also on fire.”
A spokesperson for the Kennemerland Safety Region has been in contact with Tata Steel and reports that there was nothing serious. “Daily waste dumps are carried out at that location. A section of the roadside at this dump caught fire. The Tata company fire brigade was immediately called in and extinguished the fire. Fortunately, there was little to worry about.”
