The legal dispute between second division team Preußen Münster and former captain Marc Lorenz has been settled. As the club announced on Thursday afternoon, the club and the 37-year-old have reached an agreement at the Münster Labor Court. The website states that the agreement is based on “full responsibility for the integrity of the club and its values, as well as appropriate treatment of the long-standing and deserving player.”
Lorenz, who wore the Münster jersey 158 times and celebrated the march from the Regionalliga to the 2nd Bundesliga, is quoted in the club’s statement: “I made mistakes and disappointed people, which I deeply regret. Prussia and its fans are an important part of my life. I never intentionally opposed the club. For a while, it was difficult for me to accept offers of help given my situation. I am all the more grateful that we have now come to an agreement.”
In August 2025, Preußen Münster separated from midfielder Lorenz and filed a complaint against him. The Prussians did not go into detail about the reasons, but confirmed that it was about irregularities in connection with donations. “As a major employer and ambassador for the region, SC Preußen Münster sees itself as having a responsibility to fully preserve and protect the integrity of the club, its values and the trust of the public,” it said.
A little later, Lorenz commented on the allegations via Instagram and stated that he only found out about the events from the website. “What I have to blame myself for is that I accounted for the donations too late. However, at the time of termination, the outstanding amount had already been paid off. I was therefore very surprised that the association was going public with this without prior consultation,” he wrote. In addition, for the overall context, he stated that he had been undergoing therapeutic treatment for several weeks because his mental health had suffered greatly in recent years. The club knew this. Lorenz returned to Preußen Münster in 2022 after eleven years. In his 158 games for the club, he was involved in 50 goals.
