Eurozone retail started the new year with a slight drop in sales. In January, revenue fell by 0.1 percent month-on-month, as the European statistics office Eurostat announced on Thursday in Luxembourg. Economists, however, had expected an increase of 0.3 percent on average. In December, however, sales developed significantly better than previously known.
As Eurostat also announced, according to revised data, revenues in the last month of 2025 rose by 0.2 percent month-on-month, after a decline of 0.5 percent had previously been reported.
Compared to the same month last year, retail sales rose by 2.0 percent in January. An increase of 1.7 percent was expected here
