A fire has broken out in a cable factory on Abel Tasmanstraat in Emmen. The fire was reported around 10:30 p.m., after which the fire brigade was alerted.
Upon arrival, there was a fire in part of the factory site. Due to the size of the site and the smoke development, the fire was scaled up to a medium fire and more fire brigades were called in.
According to a fire brigade spokesperson, it was a small fire that has now been extinguished by the fire brigade. Employees of the factory first attempted to extinguish the fire, but the fire turned out to be too big. The factory was then evacuated. The fire brigade is still conducting an investigation to rule out several sources of fire. As far as we know, no injuries have been reported.
The Draka Cable Factory is part of the Prysmian Group Emmen. Draka is the largest wire and cable producer in the Netherlands. The factory produces cables for electricity supply and telecommunications.
