Rapper Kanye West’s performance in Marseille, France is at stake, reports the news agency AFP.

On Wednesday, it was reported that West would perform at Marseille’s Velodrome stadium on June 11. The gig is West’s only known appearance in France.

However, now West’s appearance is at stake when, among others, the mayor of Marseille Benoît Payan has expressed that West would not be welcome at his gig.

– I refuse to let Marseille be a showcase for those who promote hatred and shameless Nazism, Payan wrote on the messaging service X.

– Kanye West is not welcome at the Vélodrome, our temple of togetherness and the temple of all Marseilles, he continued.

Also a French politician Fabienne Bendayan criticized West’s appearance on social media.

– Someone who openly declares that he admires Hitler and supports the Nazi ideology cannot set foot on the stage in a city whose soul is built on diversity, memories and brotherhood, Bendayan wrote in the message service X.

West has made several anti-Semitic and racist statements in recent years. According to NBC he declared in February 2025, in his messages published in X, he claimed to be a Nazi and praised Adolf Hitler.

In addition, West is, among other things sold t-shirtswhich had a picture of a swastika. Last year he published Hi Hitler – song.

In late January, West bought a full page ad from the Wall Street Journal publicly apologizing for his earlier “reckless” anti-Semitic comments.

The French Supreme Administrative Court rules that local authorities can ban a concert only if the statements made at the event constitute a crime or if public order is threatened.

The event organization Mars 360, which organizes the concert, commented to AFP that special conditions have been added to the concert contract to ensure that no illegalities are committed during the concert and that French law is fully respected.
